Remarks

Ronald  served in England, Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Texas, Nebraska, Michigan, Virginia and  in Georgia where he retired and now lives.   Altogether, Ron spent a total of twelve years  in Europe,  two years in the Pacific and nine years State side.

Ron began his Air Force career in the winter of 1959.  He completed his basic military training at Lackland  Air Force Base ( AFB) in Texas.  After which he was transferred to Fort Belvior Va. for  his initial technical training as a construction draftsman.  Later that summer (1960) he was given his first overseas assignment, which was to Alconbuary England.

Ron met the lovely Patricia Anne Rees in the fall of 1962 while serving in England and they were married the following spring.  Deborah Ann their first daughter was born in 1964 prior to their departure to the Offutt Air Force Base (AFB) in Nebraska.

In 1966, as a young Staff Sergeant, Ron was assigned as one of the original  founding members for the 820th Redhorse Unit.  This unit; a self contained, repaid deployment,  heavy operational repair, civil engineering squadron was being formed for deployment into Vietnam for the purpose of constructing  Air Bases.   Ron deployed along with four other members on what was called the units "Advanced, Advanced Unit".  Their mission was to set up camp at the site for what was to become Tuy Hoa Air Base and begin receiving supplies to support their unit when it finally arrived.  The "Advanced Unit" consisting of approximately 60 members joined Ron and the others in country 30 days later.  The remainder of the 500 man squadron arrived 60 days after that.  Ron's primary duties while in Vietnam was that of a construction surveyor and design draftsman.  While most of his time in country was spent constructing Tuy Hoa, he also took part in construction work at both Phan Rang and Nha Trang Air Bases.

After Ron's Vietnam tour of duty was complete, he was assigned to Hahn AFB in Germany where in 1968 his second daughter Tina Ann was born.  As a Technical Sergeant Ron served  as the non commissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) of the Engineering Drafting and Surveying section.  In 1969 he and his family returned to the States for assignment to Big Springs Texas where Ron was promoted to Master Sergeant and assigned as the Superintendent of the Site Development Section.

In 1971 Ron was reassigned to Korea where he served as Superintendent of the Construction Management Section, first at Osan AFB and then later at Kunsan AFB.   In 1972 Ron returned to K I Sawyer AFB in Michigan where he and his family were reunited.   However, as was always the case, Ron's talents were needed overseas; so in 1974 he and his family departed to Rhine Main AFB in Frankfurt Germany.   While stationed there he was promoted to Senior Master Sergeant and served as  Superintendent of both Engineering Design and Construction Management.   In 1979 he and his family returned to the States for his final assignment at Robins AFB, Georgia.   Shortly after his arrival he was promoted to his present rank of Chief Master Sergeant E9 and assigned duties as Superintendent of Construction Management.   After a three year stay, Ron retired from the service and took a job as a Project Engineer at the Georgia Kraft paper mill in neighboring Macon Georgia where he continues to work as of this date in 2001.

Ron and  Pat have five grandchildren which they love very much.  His hobbies are raising  Homing Pigeons, Honey Bees and gardening.  He has a web site for his work with the pigeons at  Ron Huntley's Rare Color Homing Pigeons  Check it out.   If you wish to contact Ron, drop him an email from here.
